John "Buck" O'Neil
Born: November 13, 1911 Carrabelle, Florida
Deceased: October 6, 2006
A graduate of Edward Waters College in 1930, O'Neil toured with the Miami Giants, New York Tigers, Shreveport Giants and the Memphis Red Sox. In 1938 he joined the renowned Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro League. From 1948 to 1955 O'Neil managed the Monarchs, and made history in 1962 when hired by the Chicago Cubs, becoming the first black coach to serve in the Major Leagues.
Each ball has been numbered and assembled in a beautiful display, accompanied by a photograph of "Buck" during the signing. The autographs were witnessed by Howard Willliams, President of the African American Sports Museum of Atlanta, and the authenticity of each signature is guaranteed. |
